Seville - Day two

May 04, 2024 00:51

A rainy morning in Frankfurt. This morning, we got up around three, local time, and got dressed enough to go get some coffee for me and hot chocolate for TBG. The coffee was very good and just what I needed for my headache.

The back is a little sore, but not anything too awful. TBG went walk about and found a place for breakfast. He seems to think that we are not going to have time for breakfast when the wheelchair service picks me up. That’s fine. It gives him something to do and me a chance to work on the computer without editorial comment.

He came back being croissants, and sweet rolls, which was breakfast. At 7:30 we headed to the lobby where we were met by a lovely gentleman who guided us through customs and then to a golf cart and drove us to our gate. I was glad because it was a long haul and I never would have made it. My back was fine, but my leg was bothering me.

It was a short wait until it was time to board our flight to Seville, which went as smooth as you could want. The only challenge we’ve had and you can’t really call it that was collecting out luggage. Because we were flying International, we had to go to a special carousel to pick it up and that was after Customs was through with it. Thankfully, there were no issues and we were off to meet Donna.

We hugged for the longest time. It was so good to see her again. She was very helpful with guiding us to our rental car lot and then she headed home and we headed to the hotel.

Only once did tempers flare. TBG wanted to plug the phone into the car’s navigational system, which was fine, but then you couldn’t hear it. I unplugged it and that pissed him off. After that, it was gloves off and we snapped at each other until I handed him the phone and told him to do it himself. I was lucky he didn’t wrap us around a tree, but in the end, we made it to the hotel.

This place, the King Alfonso XIII, is about as far from My Cloud as you could possibly get! It is elegant and luxurious. I wanted to take a photo everywhere I looked. Our room(s) are lovely and much larger than I expected. Everyone here is incredible, and we are very happy with our choice.

We got our suitcases and got stuff, then settled down for the afternoon. We napped a bit and TBG ordered an appetizer platter, which turned out to be big enough to feed seven people. We made a dent in it, but that was about it. Then he took another nap and I worked on the computer and played catch up.

Just to stretch our legs a little, we walked down to the pool. It was cool, but gorgeous and then made reservations with the hotel dining room for nine. Then it was back to the room for a bit of relaxation before meeting up with Donna for dinner.

She was a bit early, so we walked about the hotel and she told us a bit about its history and that of the area. So much knowledge, you’d think she lived here or something (:DD).

We had dinner in the San Fernando Restaurant at the hotel, so we didn’t have to walk or drive someplace. It turned out to be a fabulous choice. We had a fun waiter, who was very patient with our fractured Spanish. Donna helped when it became obvious we were struggling, which was often. :DD

We started with a regional red wine, whose name I can’t remember. (The wine was a Ribera del Duero which I chose for its robustness...I don't always trust Riojas as they tend to be wimpie - from pondhopper It was very robust, but it had a soft finish. We had: spinach salad with slivered par-cooked green beans and slivered almonds. Donna had an artichoke and tomato salad and I had consumme of oxtail soup. All were very good. Then for entrees, I had sea bass that was the best I’ve had. Donna and TBG s had fillet of pork shoulder, very tender, with spinach and mashed parsnips. Also incredible. For dessert, we shared caramel ice cream with a fudgy brownie and a chocolate cigar roll. Needless to say, we waddled out of there. Everything was so great and I was amazed when we got back to the room and it was nearly midnight.

Sleep came very quickly - Buenos noches!
